Q & A with Jack Gill, Managing Director of So Good Studios

Showcasing the power of games and interactive media in spreading awareness of important global issues, Games For Better demonstrates how games can help us approach important subjects.

Delegates at Venturefest South West will see presentations from the winning projects from the Games for Better Game Jam, a hackathon-style event where teams compete to build a game in just 48 hours, based on the theme of Antibiotic Resistance Awareness.

Heading up Games for Better is Jack Gill, Managing Director, So Good Studios.

We asked him a few questions:

• What does your work involve?
So Good Studios builds e-learning games, focusing on designing bespoke game mechanics tailored to client objectives, and showing measurable results captured through analytics. As a part of that service, my role is to connect with clients, discussing their work and their objectives, in order to better understand and explain where our product fits into their solution, as well as describing our development process. I spend a lot of time talking to people, and making sure our clients are happy with the work we produce.

• What problem does your innovation solve?
Our games are all built using modern web technologies, and designed around multiple screen sizes, which means that users can get at the content via browser on a wide range of devices, whether by desktop, laptop, tablet or phone, and have the same experience. This way, users don’t have to worry about having the correct device to hand in order to access the content.

• What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
I think, as a startup business, the most satisfying moment was our one year anniversary. That was when it hit home that we had kept our business alive for a year, delivering real products for real clients. It was great to look back at what we had achieved, and how much we had learned.

Venturefest South West is on 18th October 2016 at Sandy Park, Exeter. The event is free to attend and is sponsored by Innovate UK. Those wishing to attend need to register at www.venturefest-sw.co.uk
