Hundreds of tech businesses, innovators and investors descended on Sandy Park on 17 June for Venturefest 2019, the region’s single biggest tech knowledge exchange this year.
The day was packed with panel discussions on the latest hot topics, practical workshops for innovators and start-ups and an interactive showcase of the very latest tech coming out of the region. Delegates heard insights from organisations including IBM, the NFU, the European Space Agency, the UK Business Angels Association and Tech Nation.
Michael Dickinson, Investment Manager at Falmouth Launchpad and chair of the Venturefest South West Steering Group, said: “We have been blown away by the support and enthusiasm for this event. It’s clear that the South West is thriving and that we have a very motivated, engaged and passionate tech industry here. One of the highlights was seeing the region’s most exciting up and coming innovators pitch their ideas. The South West is fertile ground for developing and driving forward tech and the connections made here today will accelerate this further.”
21 of the region’s tech innovators and start-ups pitched to a packed audience of investors and influencers at the Pitchfest competition. Cutting-edge technology innovations from South West start-ups and entrepreneurs were on display in the Innovation Showcase, sponsored by Thomas Westcott.
One of the events’ main aims is to facilitate conversations and connections between innovators and investors. Dr Paul Upton, CEO at Ultramed Ltd, a Pitchfest participant and Innovation Showcase exhibitor said: “I spent the entire day having brilliant conversations with really interesting people from the business world, grant funding organisations and the South West Academic Health Science Network. As a company seeking further investment to accelerate Ultramed’s growth it was a fantastic event to attend.”
