Exeter City Futures is embarking on an ambitious mission to make Exeter a world-class sustainable city. At its core, Exeter City Futures approach is a process for defining problems, building partnerships to find solutions, and managing and measuring progress. As Programme Director, Liz is responsible for developing an innovation approach to enable local businesses, entrepreneurs, communities and individuals to co-create solutions and maximise the opportunity for Exeter City Futures to deliver impact on its goals for the City.

Adam Hall

Head of Sustainability at Internet Fusion and Surfdome

Adam Hall is the Head of Sustainability at Internet Fusion and Surfdome, Europe’s largest action sport retailer.

In 2015 the company eliminated 74% of the plastic from it packaging and saved money, the companies out bound packaging was 95% plastic free in 2018.

It’s now working with its 800+ brands to reduce the plastic they use. The company has also drastically reduced its C02 emissions. All the while being the founding supporter of #2MinuteBeachClean and Protect Our Winters UK

Emma Burlow

Head of Circular Economy at Resource Futures

Emma is one of the UK’s leading specialists on circular economy and resource efficiency in businesses and has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector. She has worked with a number of large businesses including Beko; M&S; Central England Co-op and DHL alongside a multitude of SMEs on leasing, rental, reuse and remanufacturing models. Emma is a specialist in making practical sense of your circular business proposition and is a Circular Economy Club Mentor.

Richard Marsh

Commercial Director, Coastal Recycling

Richard has extensive experience in developing brands, communication strategies and business development. He started his career at RH Advertising where after leading an MBO became Managing Director for 15 years. Richard then worked in London running his own consultancy advising companies on branding, business development and marketing. Following a period providing consultancy, Richard joined the board of the Coastal Recycling Group of companies in 2014 forming part of an MBO team and now leads the group on strategy and business development.
He is a Non-Executive Director of Radio Exe and a Director of the Exeter Festival of Food and Drink.

Peter Hopkinson

Professor in Circular Economy, University of Exeter

Peter is Director of the University Exeter Centre for Circular Economy that brings together academic researchers, business, policy makers and civic society to support the transition to a circular economy. He set up and ran the world’s first MBA in circular economy and a global on-line executive education programme for leading global businesses, innovation companies and educators. He is most concerned with developing the scientific evidence base for circular economy theory and practice at varying scales and within different industrial contexts.He also leads the university of Exeter plastics research hub EXeMPLaR.

Nicky Cunningham

Impact and Partnership Development Manager, University of Exeter

Nicky works within the Innovation, Impact and Business team at the University of Exeter. Her work supports research and innovation collaborations with external partners, particularly within the water and waste sectors.
Nicky joined the University in August 2018 following 16 years at the Environment Agency working in operational and national policy roles, most recently as Deputy Director for Waste Regulation. Nicky has extensive experience working with industry, government, politicians and NGOs. Prior to the Environment Agency, Nicky worked for AstraZeneca, looking at the fate and effect of chemicals in the environment.
